How the cold email grader works

The grader scores seven parts of your email with transparent rules, not a black box and not AI, so the same email always gets the same score and you can see exactly why:

  • Subject line — length, curiosity and whether it reads like a broadcast.
  • Opener — is the first line about them or about you.
  • Relevance — signals that the message is targeted, not sprayed.
  • Clarity — one idea, plain language, easy to answer.
  • CTA — a single, low-friction ask instead of a demo demand.
  • Brevity — can it be read in under ten seconds.
  • Spam risk — flagged spam-trigger words, link count and ALL-CAPS.

You get an overall score out of 100, the flagged spam words, what already works, and the specific fixes to make.

A worked example

Paste a note that opens “I wanted to reach out because we are the leading provider of…” and the grader marks the opener down (it leads with you), flags “leading provider” as filler, and usually docks the CTA if it ends on “open to a 30-minute demo this week?”. Rewrite the opener around the prospect’s problem and swap the ask for “worth a quick look?” and the score typically jumps from the 50s into the 80s.

What is a good cold email score?

80+ is strong and ready to send. 60–79 usually means one weak area, most often the opener or the CTA. Below 60, rework the email before it goes near your list, a weak email at scale just burns domains.

Frequently asked questions

How does the cold email grader score my email?+

It scores seven parts with transparent rules, no AI: subject line, opener, relevance, clarity, call to action, brevity and spam risk. It then flags spam-trigger words and returns specific fixes, so the score is explainable rather than a black box.

What is a good cold email score?+

Aim for 80 or higher. A score of 60 to 79 usually means one weak area, most often the opener or the call to action. Below 60, rework the email before sending it.

Does the cold email grader use AI?+

No. It applies deliverability and copywriting rules, so the same email always gets the same score and you can see exactly why.

Is it free?+

Yes. You get one free grade per email address, with no account required.
